Day 18

Today was one of the first super sunny days we've had all spring. 80 degree weather definitely means the revival of summer dresses. This season maxi dresses and skirts are all the rage. I've been a little slow going on this trend because it is very hard to find maxi dresses that fit short people. Usually they are much too long and totally unflattering. After a lot of searching and reading reviews, I found this coral striped maxi dress in the BP section of Nordstrom. I saw a similar version made by Ella Moss in the Point of View section for a lot more change. The quality was better, but for a dress I will probably only wear in the summer, I am fine with the imitation. During the day I wore the dress very simplified with flat sandals. For night, I put on a floral print scarf and a long cardigan. Surprisingly it transitioned well for a night out. I would have posted a pic, but it was a rough night and by the end of it, I was not in the state to be pictured. So you'll have to use your imagination on this one. :)

Day 17

Today was pajama day at work and I definitely took advantage of it. I wore my hello kitty crewneck and some black stretch pants with my zebra print flats. It's amazing that now we can find cute hello kitty clothes at Forever 21 and H & M. It seemed that HK kind of went under the radar for a while and now she's making a comeback. My love for HK spawned from when I was a little girl when I used to collect Sanrio pencils, tiny notebooks, those super cute plastic lock box pencil cases and that amazing flavored gum! I had it all! In fact my first job EVER was at the Sanrio store at Del Amo Mall. Hello Kitty is so simple and classic. That's why she's lasted for 50 years. She's timeless and she'll always be on my list of all things cute.

Day 16

Today was a bright morning and so were my clothes. I went with a bright kelly green cardigan from H&M and a printed cinch waist tank from Old Navy (clearance rack $.99!). My shoes were magenta flower flats from the Target shoe clearance rack. To tone down the brights I went with dark skinny denim on the bottom.

Every fashion magazine is talking about bright colors being the new trend. This includes hot pinks, neon oranges and shocking yellows. I say this is the perfect time to wear them! Spring is the season to be experimental and to get away with these daring colors! We'll see if I can dig in my closet for some neon next time.

Day 15

Spring has finally sprung in San Diego! This means that the tights and leggings can start coming off. Today I was able to wear a knee-length black skirt from Anthropologie and a long ombre tunic tank (tucked in) from Target. To accessorize I have a pewter gray knot necklace, also from Target. On my feet I have zebra burlap sneakers by Rocket Dog (thanks to one of my student's parents who works for the company).

I can't wait for more sun! :)

Day 14

Flowy floral is the way to go. It is fun for spring and it comfortable and easy to wear. I have on a floral racerback tank from the BP section of Nordstrom. I also have on dark denim by Gold Sign. These jeans were awesomely cheap at Loehmanns (clearance rack). My blue loafers were a great find from the Target shoe clearance rack. I always check the Target clearance racks whenever I shop. I have found so many cute things marked down WAY cheap. One thing you need to remember when you rummage through the racks is to keep an open mind. Lots of clothes I find on clearance don't look conventionally cute, but when you pair them with a belt or other accessories, they can make your outfit. One time I bought a Maternity top, totally unaware, and it turned out to look super cute with a belt, shorts and tights. Sometimes you just gotta take the gamble.

Day 13

Happy Monday! It's always fun to brighten up a dull Monday morning with color and print. I pulled out a mustard pocketed circle skirt (Forever 21) from the back of my closet and paired it with a simple white t shirt from H&M (their basics are amazing and cheap!) To add some print, I accessorized with a skinny scarf from Target. I've been experimenting a little with my scarf tying. This is a simple bow tie, but I think it adds a cute girlie detail to the outfit. Scarves.net has a bunch of fun scarf tying ideas. I figure if I can't shop, might as well get creative with what I have. :)

Day 12

Polka Dots have been my best friend this weekend. Yesterday was the polka dot mini and today is the pastel polka dot top. I got this top from the sale rack at Urban Outfitters a year ago. It's got a super cute ruffle detail (that makes it really hard to iron) that adds an extra feminine touch. To let the top speak for itself I put on some dark wash denim and simple black flats.

The outfit was perfect for stuffing myself with Easter brunch! Lots of give and coverage! :)

Day 11

Traveling can be a little unpredictable so I say dress in layers. Today I am driving to my parent's house for Easter so I opted for dressing in pieces and comfort. I have an old polka dot mini from Forever 21 and an eyelet topped shirt from JCP baby! Underneath I have long black leggings and my favorite Tory Burch flats.

Though I did not put on any Easter pastels, I thought the polka dots would add some fun festiveness. Though, after wearing the mini for the entire day, I realized this was not somethingI could ever wear without leggings, especially on Easter. I hope to God I never have before. But no worries, I kept it classy with the leggings all day. :)

Day 10

Ever have one of those days where you don't feel like getting dressed? I definitely had one of those days. This morning I totally felt like wearing something comfy, but not frumpy. I opted for some dark wash Levis and a super-soft racer back tank with vintage flower print. To add some color I put on some magenta ruffle flats from Target.

This casual day outfit can totally be dressed up for night with a sequined cardigan and patent heels. Or imagine it sans the jeans and instead with a skirt, tights and heels. Now if I have enough energy after the long work week to transition to night is a different story.

Day 9

Today I definitely pulled out some pieces from the back of the closet. This striped skirt still had the tag on it (Target clearance $3.08). The short-sleeved brown sweater was something I wore religiously back in my sophomore year of college!
At first I had a little issues making the skirt look right. At one point I almost gave up, justifying its spot on the clearance rack. After changing into a few different tops, I realized that sometimes less is more so I opted for a simple white tank with a solid cardi on top. Then I accessorized with a belt (same one I wore yesterday) and this helped everything come together. To make it appropriate for work, I went with long black leggings underneath.

I'm really starting to realize how many things I've been overlooking in my closet. I'm glad that today I was able to dive into some old findings!

Day 8

Levis are a girl's best friend. Today I'm wearing my mid-rise skinny Levis with a rustic style belt and some red flats from Target. I love these jeans! You can wear them tucked in with a crocheted sweater (as shown) or untucked with a flowy floral top or go casual with a cute flannel shirt. No matter what the style, these Levis will satisfy. Another reason why I love them is that the petite length actually fits my legs! No hemming for this girl. But this only applies to Levis from the Levis store. Don't trust the Levis from Khols. For the most part, I don't trust Khols period. Not worth it.

Day 7

Did I ever mention how amazing Target can be? If you look through my closet, you will find that Target can be an amazing asset to your wardrobe! They have so many cute dresses that are usually under $25! Not to mention their array of basics that a girl just can't live without (i.e. a good long legging, tights, boyfriend t shirts, and tanks). The only problem about Target is that you can not leave the store without buying something you don't need. I find that I have a weekly trip to Target for something, but always end up leaving with a new dress, shirt, belt, scarf or hat. For this reason, I will be avoiding Target as much as possible. :)

Today was my homage to all things Target. I have on a floral print dress with a draw- string waist in cream with yellow flowers. Underneath I have classic $5 leggings and riding style boots with exposed back zipper. All from Target. God's gift to man.

Day 6

Happy Monday! I was in a very laid back mood this morning and decided to put on some distressed Levis and a floral peasant top from H&M. To add a little fun, I wore my yellow Calvin Klein flats that I found at Lohemann's a few years ago. The outfit would have been cute with some brown loafers or oxfords too or even some woven sandals. The possibilities are endless!

Day Five

Nautical has been one of my favorite things in life. It's totally timeless and it doesn't get better than that. Well, it totally does because Tory Burch made the cutest espadrilles... in nautical print! I have this favorite spring shoe paired with a navy sun dress from forever 21. This was perfect to run Sunday errands in (none of which included shopping of course) :(

Day Four

It is officially the weekend and all I want to do is assume my weekend ritual shopping trip. It just dawned on me. It is going to be a long 100 days.

To take my mind of of the shopping withdrawals, I decided to enjoy the sunny day by dressing the part. I have on a floral drop waist dress from Target. I also have on Metallic Snakeskin sandals from Target and a straw hat from Forever 21. And of course a cross- body bag by marc by marc jacobs. Cross- body bags are the best for day trips. You never have to worry about your bag. Ever.

Day Three

In my morning scramble, I found two old pieces and created something new. The pastel colored plaid shirt is h&m from um... 3 years ago and the skirt is Forever 21 from um... 3 years ago as well. I guess sometimes it is wise to keep things you don't wear very often. The belt is also from a while back from Salvation Army. It's definitely a thrift store find that has lasted. Underneath it all is my favorite black tights.

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Day Two

Today I went with a simple cotton dress from American Apparel. This dress can be seriously dressed up or down with a sequined cardigan or an oversize cotton sweater with sneakers, respectively. A very versatile piece for sure. I chose to wear it with tiered, floral printed open cardigan from Urban Outfitters sale rack ($5!). To add some shape, I accessorized with a zebra print belt. Underneath it all, I went for long leggings, making it appropriate for work.

Mixing prints can sometimes be scary, but lots of prints like florals and animal print can exist in perfect harmony! Try it!

Day One

I have nothing to wear.

This is a feeling I have more often then I should. And it's a problem that no amount of shopping can cure. The behemoth called my closet will stand as proof. But, herein lies the idea behind my project. With a closet full of clothes, how is it that without fail, I feel like I have nothing to wear on a day-to-day basis?

It seems as if I am caught in a cycle of shopping for what I don't have before I look to what I do have. Basically, I tend to get bored of my clothes and shop for the new before looking at the right now.

So here is my temporary solution. For 100 days, I will attempt to create 100 outfits by shopping from my own closet. I will create, combine and accessorize with what I have to make 100 days of new. It will challenge me to mix and match pieces I have to take on new life. Don't underestimate of the power of a different cardigan and shoes. It will change your life. Well, at least your outfit.

Day One

Initially, I was very skeptical about colored pants, but I decided to try the trend with some "dusty rose" colored pants from Loft. I paired it with another trend I have been skeptical about, but have recently embraced, animal print. Might as well go all out, right? I also accessorized with a pink and gold ribbon style necklace. Comfy and casual for a day at work. However, the pants and the sweater can be totally dressed up for night or worn separately with other pieces to make a completely different look. Keep your eyes peeled for the return of these pieces mixed and matched
